@hiway didn’t know you can grow coffee at home! does it want some specific climate or environment?

@hiway I didn't know it was possible to get from bush to cup in the morning! Amazing. Happy coffee time. 😍

@hiway @johnb48 I’m still trying to process that first sentence… can’t even imagine letting that happen! (I’ve probably got a 3 month supply since two of my most favorite coffees were being discontinued by the roaster(s) and I bought 5 lbs of each in addition to my normal amount of their other offerings)

@tim Are you Tucson or south? I would think you’d have to be to even consider coffee.

@tim ⬆️⬆️ India or at least Asia, I think you will find. What USDA zone are you? I suspect I tried old/poor-quality seed, but it rotted before it germinated. Similar plants here, the problem tends to be _fluctuations_ in temperature and humidity rather than absolute minimum. In my case it's altitude (especially having lost a lot of canopy to the last wildfire in August), but in your case it may just be Continental Climate. #growYourOwn #coffee

@tim you could manufacture a micro-climate that might fit. I would certainly try again if I could get cheap green, unprocessed coffee beans. Not a thing here. The fire was the 2nd in 7 years. Not unexpected. It's become a pyrogenic climate and environment: rapidly growing robust shrubs full of oil that desiccate above ground then come back after the fire. The eucalypt plantation was actually LESS flammable around me than this scrub. Most of it cooked, not burned. The insidious part was the slow, long underground fires that the flash fire started, emitting higher proportion of CO2 than the H-rich volatiles burning in the flash fires My task is to conserve the ravine system that I'm in.

@tim as a coffee enjoyer I totally get that there's just no replacement for a good cup of joe, but if you are open to alternatives, I'm pretty sure Yaupon is native (or close to native) there! It doesn't taste like coffee but it is caffeinated and tasty
