This is an incredibly specific request, but I'm hoping for some Fediverse magic: Does anyone here own a Nintendo Hands Free Controller AND could take a photo of it for a CC-BY-SA 4.0 licensed OER project? Any help would be much appreciated, boosts included! (Edit: I already reached out to a few users on Reddit as well as two museums, thanks everyone for the suggestions!) #OpenEducationalResources #Nintendo #Accessibility #Gaming #RetroGaming

@Beurkeek@peoplemaking.games I personally had no idea this existed. Looks like the player used the d-pad with their chin and then inhaled or exhaled with the tube for the A and B buttons? I don't understand how start and select worked. I did a brief search, but couldn't find if Nintendo Power covered this controller at all. You might have luck contacting a YouTuber (or even eBay seller) if you just need a photo.

  • @Beurkeek@peoplemaking.games another possible option: there are a few for sale on eBay. Those sellers may be willing to let you use their photos.

@Beurkeek@peoplemaking.games I found some pictures online on reddit which claim to be by users (https://www.reddit.com/r/gamecollecting/comments/1pp1u5h/nintendo_hands_free_controller_surfaces_after_40/). Perhaps you could get in touch with them, in case you haven't already?

@Beurkeek@peoplemaking.games if you can't find one here, perhaps you could email the museum of play to see if they'll let you use their picture? https://www.museumofplay.org/blog/play-is-the-best-medicine/

@Beurkeek@peoplemaking.games you honestly might have better luck asking on bluesky actually, there aren't very many niche gaming people on here AFAIK

@Beurkeek@peoplemaking.games This thread has several people posting photos of their unit a month ago; I'd consider writing to them. https://www.reddit.com/r/gamecollecting/comments/1pp1u5h/nintendo_hands_free_controller_surfaces_after_40/

@Beurkeek@peoplemaking.games i looked up nintendo hands free controller, the first result is a picture someone took on reddit, and there are a lot of other pictures of it that aren't promotional material.

@Beurkeek@peoplemaking.games Are you familiar with the Media Archaeology Lab at CU Boulder ( @mediaarchaeologylab@post.lurk.org )? They may have the equipment and may be able to help, or put you in touch with a researcher or archive who can support! https://www.mediaarchaeologylab.com/

@Beurkeek@peoplemaking.games Very weird. question, is there a reason you couldn't reach out to Nintendo and ask for permission to use one of their images? I would have thought coverage of very cool old accessibility stuff would generally cast them in a good light so they'd be eager for people to do that...
