Especially with a "dumb" car stereo like this, without Android or Win CE or anything. Also, using HE-AAC an entire song fits on a disk with acceptable quality (what a weird combination of technologies).

btw this is "Rotteen - VEC†LEGGENDARIA (Reasonable Speed Re-Edit)" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHLahmRaZls (I just went through my HALLEY LABS library and chose a song that would fit on the floppy, also I wanted something that wouldn't get the video copyright claimed)

Also, this still works with my new car stereo that is based on Windows CE 7, though that one only seems to support mp3, wma and flac

@patagona@chaos.social as long as the filesystem is supported it should work.

@patagona@chaos.social Android is Linux and the kernel almost never drops support for old devices, so....

@patagona@chaos.social amazing. it must buffer the entire track before playing. Now you just need 9 more floppies for an album.

@patagona@chaos.social But it is really safe to change disks while driving?

@patagona@chaos.social ✨ that floppy seeking sound ✨ I had my first PC in 1997 and floppy drives always felt like poor little things that are honestly doing their best. (unlike printers who intentionally troll us)

@patagona@chaos.social I'm reminded of the Strudelsoft label that made a bunch of music designed for low bitrates, with floppy disk releases. https://strudelsoft.bandcamp.com/album/chaos-y2k

@patagona@chaos.social meanwhile if my stereo reads a flash-drive with the files having the wrong metadata, it decides it doesnt want to read USBs at all 😅 if you dont mind me asking, is this just a regular floppy drive? (usb, ofc, not sata)

@patagona@chaos.social Awesome. This is what you get when things (like filesystems on a USB device) are so complex that virtually no one implements the stack of components necessary to deal with them - your library tends to come with all SORTS of extra goodies you didn't know about.
