@anthonybearles@mastodonapp.uk Yes, the brown bin is for green waste and the green bin is a green bin for recycling, with the black bin for everything else.

@anthonybearles@mastodonapp.uk Well, it all depends on where you live. My green bin is for green waste and the brown bin is for recyclables. But my recyclables are probably not the same as your recyclables.

@anthonybearles@mastodonapp.uk In my area, homes only have green, red, blue and black bins. Unless you're in a flat, as those are still allowed to use bags. However, the red and blue bins are collected on alternating weeks, except for the Christmas period where there's a new timetable and a lot of us start to lose track again. ♻️ :blobcatbox: #binception

@anthonybearles@mastodonapp.uk Where I am now the green bin is for paper, glass, and cardboard. The brown bin is for garden waste. The black bin is for household waste and the small black bin is for food waste. Where I was before, the green bin was for garden waste, the green tub was for glass and metal (but only food containers), the maroon bin was for cardboard, and the black for general household. There was no bin for plastics or food waste. It's all very simple, apparently, and not at all confusing.

@anthonybearles@mastodonapp.uk We have 4 bins, brown, green, blue and black. The Green bin is for general, non-recyclable waste. The recycling (which is fewer things than in most areas) goes in the black bin, glass in the blue and garden waste in the brown (the only one really logical). My mother-in-law, who lives 6 miles away, has 2 bins, and can recycle more than we can (including aluminium foil, one of the easiest things to recycle). Fortunately, most of our bins don't get half full, as we follow (cont)

@anthonybearles@mastodonapp.uk Depends on your country, and your city. In mine, green kitchen waste goes into the green bin the brown waste (paper, cardboard) goes into the blue bin plastic packaging goes into the yellow sack residual waste that belongs into neither of the green, blue or yellow goes into the black bin glass goes into either the green, brown or white slot of the glass container. bulky, electronic, and toxic waste goes to the recycling center garden waste goes to the communal composting site. You guessed by now that a German is speaking. And yes, the plastic packaging is officially collected separately to be "recycled". Unofficially, because this increases the caloric value of that separate stream of waste.

@anthonybearles@mastodonapp.uk Here brown bin is for green waste, blue bin is for paper/cardboard, green bin is for glass, yellow bin is for packaging (this includes, but isn't limited to cans, plastic bottles, CDs, styrofoam), and black bin is for everything else. And of course if you go to an area serviced by a different garbage truck company, the colours will be different.

@anthonybearles@mastodonapp.uk @TheBreadmonkey@beige.party Except in Northumberland, where the green bin is the grey bin and the grey bin is the green bin. That's because, before green bins were introduced, the grey bin was made green to be more appealing. So when green bins were introduced, they couldn't have two green bins so they made the new bin grey (for green waste, which is mostly brown) and left the old green bin green, for grey waste. #binception #Northumberland

@anthonybearles@mastodonapp.uk Here where I live we have brown bin for green waste (green waste is from the garden and food leftovers) for recycable waste/package waste (plastic) we have yellow bags. we also have black bins, but glass belongs in separate containers. we also have white bags for used diapers. the white bags are collected together with the black bins. Paper we put in front of the door once a month and it will be picked up as if by magic. confused? me too. 😬 😁
