@EthicalProfessor@mstdn.social It's unbelievable how much misogyny is normalized even (and especially!) in OBGYN. Going to a woman doesn't mean you're safe, either, because many internalize the misogyny in training programs. I'm afraid the joke in medicine goes: "If you're good with your mind you do internal medicine. If you're good with your hands you do surgery. If you're good with neither you do OBGYN." I try to make sure my GYN is a woman of color to avoid MAGAs and this kind of MAGA like thinking.

  • @EthicalProfessor@mstdn.social In med school one of the OBGYN profs wanted me to join the field, and I said I was thinking more about pediatrics. He said I was stereotyping myself as a woman. Obviously I didn't say this aloud, but I was like "So I should join a different majority female profession?" Far from the worst thing I saw or heard, which is why I'm sharing it: that's funny-stupid. The other stuff isn't funny. But it shows the lack of self awareness.

  • @MaryAustinBooks@mstdn.social My BW and I have been married almost 45 years, and in that interval she has had maybe 1 MD (OB or not) who was not, IMHO, a misogynist... and then she retired. The US medical profession is in desperate shape even before considering catholic hospitals.
