@paul_ipv6@infosec.exchange @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org Nor has Whisky Pete come up with a substitute for the Navy typically having ships make frequent stops at home ports to refit and resupply. Did he try resupplying large ships like carriers with food, toiletries, equipment and parts, replacement crew by air? Has the Navy not recommended that to him? Does it not have the resources to do that? Or is Hegseth managing under the influence and disregarding them?

@huntingdon@mstdn.social @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org the problem with refits on carriers is that they would need ships as big as them to carry that much stuff and a real ship yard to do repairs. there's a reason the navy does it this way. but it assumes regular schedules of refit/resupply at places with dry docks, that you can get dozens of warehouses filled by loads of semi-trucks for supplies, etc. you also need time off for crews. carriers are what? 5000 folks? and that's just the carrier, not the whole carrier group. this is like someone trying to run a race car and doing gas and maintenance and tires like it's a honda civic driven by a church goer with 4k miles a year. you're going to ruin engines, tires, pit crews.
