@sushee@ohai.social my friend teaches middle school and three kids handed in the same LLM generated essay. When asked about it, they said they had used an LLM but then they had each typed it out themselves. They were honestly shocked this wasn’t considered their own work and there was any issue. Poor kids.

@sushee@ohai.social There's a whole generation of us that learned programming from typing in code examples from computing/gaming magazines back in the late 1900s. (I learned rudimentary debugging skills by finding my own typos.) Absolutely nobody still does this, because as you said, it would be absurd.

@sushee@ohai.social Absurd, and yet in education, this is basically my goto last line of defence against just giving up on teaching writing code altogether
