#OldPeopleOfMastodon I need your help. I'm on a canal boat trip, lots of walking, lock working etc. Every night I get woken several times with terrible leg cramps. Anyone got any tips? (Youngsters can contribute too). #Boating #Canals #Cramp #BoatsThatToot

@pthane@toot.wales My experience tends to suggest this is a hydration / electrolyte issue. It's hot out there at the moment and you are sleeping in a tin can floating on insulation. I'd suggest that you need to drink a •lot• more than usual (laying off, or minimising, alcohol & caffeine) but at the same time increase your salt intake, with the easiest way being a couple of bags of plain or salt & vinegar crisps a day. As much as I hate the 'hydrate' mantra, because it generally has little basis in science, what you are describing does sound like it might be an electrolyte imbalance.
