@pete@masto.hypertelia.com asks: I clean snapped a brifter off a bike the other day, which is now sat in the shed awaiting replacement parts alongside another that has no chain and a worn cassette as it somewhat embarrassingly has been for perhaps 18 months: Q5. Do you have bikes that are out of action and if so, how long have they been that way? #BikeNiteQ #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes cc @bikenite@fedigroups.social

@ascentale@sfba.social @pete@masto.hypertelia.com @bikenite@fedigroups.social #BikeNite A5 sorry, nope. All our bikes are road worthy minus a tire pressure check. I had one carbon bike with a cracked drive side chainstay. But I gave that to a friend after it sitting for a couple months. Paying for the repair was more than I paid for the used bike. Finding quality fiber was too much for me at the time. I didn't feel like parting it even though it was 2009 dura-ace. But that's how motivation goes sometimes.

@ascentale@sfba.social @pete@masto.hypertelia.com @bikenite@fedigroups.social #BikeNite A5. I put most bikes back into shape immediately, EXCEPT, I have an e-bike (an ancient one, which I bought for $20 or so not working and stripped down and repainted, etc.). And the controller went bad, either I cross connected it, or it sat in the rain too long. I really need to fix that. But since I don't ebike anywhere, it is more of a curiousity than anything else. (have a new controller, have to figure out if it will work to connect). it's a terrible, terrible e-bike with drum brakes and no power, lol, but it was educational to strip it down and follow all the wiring/etc.

@ascentale@sfba.social @pete@masto.hypertelia.com @bikenite@fedigroups.social A5. My "backup" bike, which needs tires, a chain, and probably more for the past 2 or 3 years. I'll probably fix it up and donate it to justify another bike later on. Maybe buy my neighbor's old touring bike. #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @pete@masto.hypertelia.com @bikenite@fedigroups.social A5. My Spouse's bicycle. She's been so busy with work and travel that she hasn't had time to use it. She likes to bicycle *after* she's started, but getting her to start is an issue. I'm thinking about getting her a new bike to psychologically break through some of her subconscious resistance to starting and give her current bike to our niece. #BikeNite

  • @ascentale@sfba.social @pete@masto.hypertelia.com @bikenite@fedigroups.social #BikeNite A5: All 7 of the bikes my wife and I own are in good repair and are in action. The "exception" is my ebike which got a flat just before I left town and I will repair it tomorrow.

@ascentale@sfba.social @pete@masto.hypertelia.com @bikenite@fedigroups.social A5 #bikenite I *did*. OK I have 2 very old Schwinns that ... I haven't touched in years that I bought from somebody who had hoarded hundreds of them and was selling them for $25. Then there's the one that really belongs to my friend (another Racer from 1969 but with 3 speeds). When the handlebar moustachioed Clay wafted the Bianchi Osprey to the back of my bike and balanced and bungeed like a superhero....it inspired me. Baby Bianchi (it's a tiny frame) had been abandoned in the bike shop since the previous century. So! The Dahon got donated to the bike project. The Gazelle ... welp, I am still trying to figure out how to get it apart but I THINK I FOUND A VIDEO. I just tried to put a shim around the 26.4 mm seatpost for Baby Bianchi (should be 26.6 mm) but ... couldn't get it on easily. Oh, then there is the huge tricycle that's the housemate's that doesn't work either.

@ascentale@sfba.social @pete@masto.hypertelia.com @bikenite@fedigroups.social A5. No! but that is a recent change. I was gifted a bike which, alas, did not actually fit/work for me. Which led to purchasing 2 units which *do* suit my abilities and needs. And then for a few years that 'spare' bike sat. I had plans to donate it to a bike kitchen, but it never happened. A few months ago I finally found someone who would take it off my hands, and hopefully use it. Even if they part it, that is better than it sitting utterly unused. #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @pete@masto.hypertelia.com @bikenite@fedigroups.social - A5 - I have an Avatar 2000 LWB USS recumbent in amazing condition except that one of the leather pieces that mounts the seat on the frame has broken. Anyone know a good SF Bay Area leatherworker (or make me a *serious* offer to buy)? Been that way for ~ 2 years. 6 other bikes in riding condition plus 1 rideable but doesn't fit me well. #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes cc @bikenite

  • @ascentale@sfba.social @pete@masto.hypertelia.com @bikenite@fedigroups.social A5. Nothing currently out of action, but a few years ago, my cyclo-cross bike was out of action for around six weeks in the midst of the season. I tore off the rear mech in a race, trashing it and the mech hanger in the process. It's an unfortunately typical cyclo-cross occurrence. The delay was caused by a shop's inability to order the correct replacement hanger. This was the shop that sold me the bike, so no excuse for ordering the wrong one more than once. After that, I bought a second cyclo-cross bike to cover such eventualities in the future. And typically, since then I have never needed that bike as a back-up! #BikeNite #Cycling #CycloCross
