RE: https://mastodon.social/@fullywoolly/117013241064815417 I didn't get interviewed for this article, but at least they briefly mentioned one of the two recent Saskatchewan debris falls, and used it to introduce this quote which is going to keep me awake for a few nights: "The company [SpaceX] now says that about 5 percent of the mass of some satellites may not disintegrate." There are almost 11,000 SpaceX satellites above our heads. I do not like this Russian roulette game.

@sundogplanets@mastodon.social that stood out to me as well. Our regulatory system is a joke down here. I don't understand how damage to life or property is an acceptable risk for the regulatory bodies or cost of doing business. Well I can understand the cost of doing business given who's at the helm.

@sundogplanets@mastodon.social So have I got this correct? 8360 tons of whatever satellites are made of, spread through the atmosphere in the next five years as they deorbit? 440 tons over five years will hit the planet? These people should be in prison.
