@sundogplanets@mastodon.social So have I got this correct? 8360 tons of whatever satellites are made of, spread through the atmosphere in the next five years as they deorbit? 440 tons over five years will hit the planet? These people should be in prison.

@dar@mastoart.social @sundogplanets@mastodon.social Concern is not completely invalid, but to put it in perspective, the Earth is estimated to be hit within 15,000 to 40,000 pounds of meteors every year, and presumably it's been that much (or often much more) every year since the planet existed. Speed of entry is higher as well, which might result in greater vaporization. You've always been breathing meteorite metal and dust.

@dar@mastoart.social @sundogplanets@mastodon.social You know who should be in prison? People who pump 38 billion tons of CO2 per year into the atmosphere. Or, rather, people who make us do it, because, let's face it, it is us who do it, burning coal and petroleum and gas. This is what matters, not a couple thousand tons of metal and plastic (though I understand @sundogplanets@mastodon.social POV).
