I said, "Vaccination doesn't prevent infection. You know, vaccines are even only effective for like 4 months..." They clearly were NOT interested in being informed, only on pushing back on the testing. With multiple obviously high-risk family members in attendance, I pushed back harder and they finally agreed to test. The kid is negative (for now). 2/3

It's incomprehensible to me that in this scenario, I'm thinking of what's best for EVERYONE and just want to keep everyone safe, yet given societal norms, I come across as overbearing and covid-obsessed, rather than the other parent coming across as irresponsible for exposing everyone to a sick kid. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Even if it's not covid, we still don't want to catch ANY illness!! 3/3

@ikuo1000@mas.to My wife's had Covid twice and I've had it once. In all 3 cases we tested negative the first day we had symptoms and positive on the second day. I don't know if this is normal but it suggests that there is a chance of false negatives. OTOH the reason I didn't catch it the first time she had it was I had been working closely with someone who got symptoms and tested positive the following day. As my wife was working with immune compromised people then we agreed to stay several metres apart for 10 days. At least I was able to keep her supplied with sorbet while we waited for her to recover.
