#heatwave The U.K.has recorded 2,877 excess deaths, and in France, that number has reached over 5,700. Yet, you'll still hear people insist that "It gets hot every summer." I hope there are very few Climate Crisis holdouts at this point. Europe is heading into its fourth major heatwave since May. Extreme 100°F + heat is going to last a week in California, for only the fifth time in 85 years. The U.S. keeps building heat domes that park over millions and don't budge for days. The fires in France and Spain serm to be slowing, hopefully in Canada, too. But, there are too many fires all over the place. Crete has been in the bullseye of late. And I don't want to hear about the Clooneys having to evacuate their French villa. The stories of ordinary people are what matter to me, like those three Greek firefighters who lost their lives battling blazes.

Fully agree, but the sad reality is that a few rich people being affected probably does more for climate crisis awareness than all those deaths. And yes, that fucking sucks.

I am told the excess death numbers for Germany are 9,852 which is horrifying.

@kimlockhartga@beige.party It's honestly terrifying how 'normal' this is becoming. I'm sitting here worrying about my server rack overheating in this weather, but that's nothing compared to what people are actually facing. Stay safe and stay cool.
