  Good morning. The groundhog days of triple digit heat indexes and humidity continue. Last night I went out and pre-emptively took care of the birdbath and birdfeeders. I checked the garden but only accomplished a minimal amount before the heat chased me inside again. Except for a quick trip for groceries, I will be staying indoors. I'll likely end up reading and consoling the cats who don't understand why we won't open the catio for them. #Today

  @kateiacy@universeodon.com @jadevol@mastodon.world I frequently see groundhogs in the area when I'm driving around, but this is the first one in our yard. We see snakes in our yard a few times a summer. The thing I don't like about them is that they are quiet, so they tend to startle me if I see one. Luckily, they don't want to get anywhere near us, which is fine with me!

  Good morning! I woke up to loud thunderstorms. The monsoon-like rain has moved on, but it looks like we'll have unsettled weather all day. I have an appointment to get my hair cut later, and some groceries to pick up. I hope Mother Nature saves her worst for when I'm finished with my errands.   Good morning. The only definite thing planned for today is dinner out at one of our favorite local restaurants with our daughters and family guests. It's fun sharing information on our various relatives, but I was sad to find out my former sister-in-law has early symptoms of dementia and no longer drives. She is just two years older than I. Thank goodness she lives with her husband and youngest daughter. Learning the effects of getting older on family and friends sucks. #Today

  Good morning. I’m out already, in the waiting room for a doctor’s appointment. I was going to tack on some errands afterwards, but we have some unexpected strong thunderstorms, so I’ll see if they’ve moved on when I’m done here. From the showers we got overnight I won’t have to water the garden or refill the birdbath. I have plenty of housekeeping things inside to keep me busy if rain takes over the whole day. We’ll see how the day develops. #Today

  Happy #SofaSunday! It’s another cool morning (61F / 16C). Warmer weather arrives tomorrow, so summer will be making a return. This week will be busy with out-of-town family visiting by Wednesday, but today I’m going to just enjoy the day. There’s time enough for cooking and cleaning prep tomorrow.   Good morning! I woke up to 60F (15.5C) weather. I've already been out for a walk that required a sweater. This fall-like weather is glorious. It's a pleasure to have the house opened up and cooler than inside than it has been for a long time. I need to do some housecleaning, which won't take long, and I think need to bake something since heating up the house isn't a consideration today. Might as well celebrate the benefits of comfortable weather. #Today

  Good morning! Muggy is the word for today. We have a good chance for thunderstorms all day. Fingers crossed we get some measurable rain. I'm glad I don't have anywhere I need to go. I'm looking forward to a catch-up phone call with my sister in Chicago later. Since her partner has dementia, we schedule it around what works best for her. Otherwise, it will be a regular day of reading, family history research and indoor exercising. No way I'm walking in the sauna outside....

  Good morning and happy #SofaSunday. Last night’s thunderstorms have left us with cleaner air, at least temporarily. We got enough rain to raise the humidity and wet the ground. Other than that, just a lot of bluster. If the humidity drops to non-gross levels I’ll tidy up the garden. More likely it will be a quiet day of reading. #Today

  Good morning! I'm back from our "girls only" trip. We had a great time, but as always, it's good to be home. We're starting the day with smoky haze and unhealthy air and will end with strong thunderstorms. I feel like I'm living in a science fiction movie. At the same time my heart goes out to our Canadien neighbors who are more directly affected by the forest fires. Today will be spent indoors, returning to the reality of everyday life.   Good morning. This morning I have a dentist appointment. It's just a routine checkup, but to me there's nothing routine about it. There's nothing I enjoy about the experience besides walking out the door when it's over. I guess I'll look forward to that. Tonight, one of our neighbors is having a small outdoor get together.   Good morning! I'm getting myself together to head out for my checkup this morning. Afterwards I've got a few errands before hunkering down in the AC. The high heat and humidity have returned. Last night's thunderstorms watered the outdoor plants, and I'm grateful. We also escaped the flash flooding plaguing areas to the north.   Good morning! It's a treat to wake up to 70F (21C) temperatures. The cats are already out on the catio, enjoying the fresh air for the first time in a week. I have a few errands to run, but I'm planning to spend a big chunk of time in the garden. I think it fared pretty well during the week of high heat and my neglect, but we'll see. Despite the clouds it's nice to have a day or two to spend time outdoors before heat returns. #Today

  Good morning. At the moment we have matching temperature 80F (26.6C) and humidity levels (80%) at 8 am. Do I win anything? Today’s fun is watching the birds at the birdbath. Each kind has a different water strategy. Chickadees sit + soak in a group, like a hot tub party. The summer tanagers like to bathe individually, splashing around until they are completely soaked. Finches tend to come in for a quick drink. On hot days they seem more interested in water than food. Me too. #Today

  Good morning + happy #SofaSunday. It’s a stay-at-home day as Sundays usually are. I neglected my bird feeders yesterday so I’ve already taken care of them. The birds are happy. I’m not likely to go outside again in the 93% humidity. The garden is enjoying this tropical weather accompanied by our recent daily thunderstorms. I’ll likely have a jungle by the time our upcoming heat wave comes to an end. That’s a problem for another day. This afternoon I’ll be reading on the sofa. #Today

  Last night's Town Hall meeting was attended by hundreds. The company behind the cable landing station, (first step to data center build out,) was met with stiff opposition.   Good morning! My second cup of coffee has some heavy lifting to do. I'm not in any hurry to do much today. I just have the urge to push most chores off, especially the grocery run, until tomorrow.   Good morning! Our temperatures are a little more pleasant today, but we're in peak pollen season. Outside surfaces, including any car not kept in a garage, look like they've been dusted with yellow-green talcum powder. I'll do my daily walk but otherwise hide inside for the rest of the day. I've finished purging the closets, at least downstairs, so I can read to my heart's content while the washing machine + dryer do the laundry. Enjoy your Friday! #Today

  Good morning. I’m feeling a little under the weather so today’s plans are tentative. Job 1 is taking it easy. Yesterday our tree guys came and mulched fallen limbs and trees that we’d piled up from our wind/snow storm. 3 truck loads! The fun part was watching the certified climber go up the trees and cut down snapped limbs hanging dangerously overhead and unreachable with a bucket truck.   Good morning! Sun is shining brightly on our frozen landscape. I appreciate it's help on day 2 of the big dig out. The birds are a little less frantic this morning. They're learning to cope with having very few places to forage. I've already refilled the feeders and spread some seed on the ground for the ground feeders.   Good #SlackerdaySaturday! The sun is out today! Yippee! That’s the good news. The bad news is that I woke up to a winter storm watch for tomorrow through Monday, with possible snow totals of 6-9” and winds of 45 mph. Where did THAT come from?! That’s a serious amount of snow for this area. I guess winter isn’t done with us yet. I’m planning to take an extra long walk today to enjoy the outdoors while I easily can.
