There isn't a shred of hard evidence for any dev team getting 10x, 5x or even just 2x productivity using AI.

@jasongorman@mstdn.business Well, that's only because we haven't found the right metric. 🙄

@jasongorman@mstdn.business my experience says otherwise, but what would you count as hard evidence?

@jasongorman@mstdn.business pretty good evidence of a strongly negative effect on senior resources as the volume of junior-created problems spikes when they use AI. A senior resource at one of my clients needed to adapt a set of 5 config files. Copy, change 2 values in each. 2 minute task. He used Claude and it mangled the piss out of them.

  • @jasongorman@mstdn.business, I agree that the claims of AI productivity improvement for software development are grossly exaggerated. Nevertheless, as a practitioner who has started working with AI tools in a software development workflow, I am fairly confident that these tools will increase productivity to a significant extent at an affordable price point. Perhaps we will only achieve 1.25X (or 1.175X). But my gut feel is that some measurable improvement will be realized.
