I have a horrible feeling that a lot of people look at forest fires, floods, record heatwaves, etc., and think, "This is how it's going to be from now on." It's not. We're still pumping CO2 into the atmosphere, where it's accumulating. The future is going to be much, much worse. Unless we take drastic action now.

@MarkHoltom@mastodonapp.uk We will have to spend energy to fight it which derails us from building better to save us. We will do this in much worse conditions, with less food and water to go around, more illness, more death. We are facing a runaway problem. We must collectively, globally, stand together to protect the earth, or everything will die and we CAN fight it now. We might not be able to later. It will be a very difficult task to fix later.

@MarkHoltom@mastodonapp.uk The sort of action I believe is the most important is community level, where we have the most agency. Why? Because the world’s consumption happens in each of our communities . Walkable communities that reintegrate into ecology can cut 90% of vehicular expense and resource use. The more your community can serve its own basic needs locally the more resilience it has, and the more it pulls the plug on the global economy. We ensure our safety and pull the plug on the problem.

It's just not killer robots in charge of the world's nuclear arsenal so much as it is killer AI in data centers emitting more CO2 than they should, in order to fasttrack global climate change. The results are similar, and no less deathly. #NoAI
