As Canadians, I think the most tragic thing, the thing that hits us right in the culture, is summer used to be a kind of collective celebration of surviving the winter. Sunny relief after adversity. And now, between runaway allergies, lethal heatwaves, and the forest fires, summers are turning into a seasonal gauntlet much worse (and less easily remedied by a toque and hot cocoa). I am equally furious and exhausted. #thisIsNotFine #climateCrisis #CDNpoli

@vlrny@disabled.social I lived without a/c. I caught hundreds of grasshoppers and leaf-hoppers in my grandmothers grass, one at a time (and let them go again, of course). I never knew a place than flooded. I never knew a place that burned. I never knew a place that had a drought. Southern Ontario seemed somehow insulated from all of those extremes. When a tornado went through near Barrie, it was a big enough deal that they wrote books about it.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the floods, the massive windstorms, the droughts... Mostly because I haven't experienced those yet *this* year. But hey, it's not even August yet. *laughsobs*

@vlrny@disabled.social I have been thinking that we are getting close to winter actually being more pleasant than summer which is a strange and slightly terrifying thought.

@vlrny@disabled.social I was thinking the same thing the other day! In Belgium, having a nice sunny day used to be my favourite. Whereas now, blue skies are to be taken with caution. So sad.
