Thinking of the basic math (money, time, emissions, etc) and the (ahem) idea of building data centres in space. Conclusion: These ridiculous man children aren't qualified to run a bingo game, never mind having access to untold billions of dollars.

The beach was windy today and the wind was hot. That almost never happens. Not exactly refreshing. Saw a small husky playing in the surf with her humans, loping into the waves to her dog-mum and back to the sand to dog-dad. When I walked past she came running to see me with a big smile on her face and sniffed the flip-flops I was carrying before bounding off into the water again. Still not 100% sure if she was an actual dog or a land-dolphin. She was having a ton of fun either way. #Ocean #...

So I was cleaning stuff up on my laptop (discovered an ebook I wrote and did nothing with, time stamped 2010 but let's not go there right now), and found a few gems. No idea what happened to prompt this, but it made me chuckle. Maybe I should do more.

Some of you may recall I was puzzled (and possibly concerned) because somebody's been doing a lot of yelling. I discovered at least some of it is Zoomie-related. Observe Exhibit A, minus the vocalizing which occurred just prior to the camera rolling. #CatsOfMastdon #FediCats #Cats

There seems to be growing enthusiasm for closed generative AI systems with little attention paid to the multiple issues that make genAI so problematic. The consensus seems to be "Oh it's closed, so it's all fine." Is it really? What security measures are needed to prevent hacks or leaks? What are the real resource requirements (does the organization even know)? Where do organizations like museums get their "approved" research materials? Are they scraped? We h...

Somebody would like you to know his person is sad because she had to hack at her black rot-infested grapevine to try to stop the spread and she's not sure if the robins successfully had little ones before leaving their nest or if the crows staged a raid and then she got caught in a downpour while cleaning up the pruning and now she has a pounding headache and doesn't want to go back to work tomorrow. He'll look after her and not only because meals are still appearing on time. #Cats...

If it wasn't for this magnificent ocean I might have lost what's left of my marbles. The water was stupid warm, the surf was stupid choppy (so no swim โ again), the walk was good, said hi to a sandpiper, saw a few happy dogs but didn't get to give any pats. #Ocean #Beach #Fog #Walking

TFW you send some words of encouragement to someone who feels like they're caught in a professional shit storm when you're in the middle of one of your own (the slop machine, captialism, etc). But still. Keep lighting the beacons. The right people are looking for them.

This photo is a bit deceptive as there were a few nearly 3-foot waves (fun to jump up in front of as they rolled in), but today's swim was a good one.

When you badly want to catch a (possibly nonexistent, but don't tell him) mouse but you just had second lunch and can barely keep your eyes open. And you're completely unaware of the robin's nest almost directly above you, which is why the general area won't get tidied until the babies are fledged, so you're ensconced in your very own fenced-in jungle. #CatsOfMastodon #FediCats #Cats #LifeInTheCompoumd

I forgot I transplanted these day lilies into the compound garden. They're putting on quite a show. As I was taking the photos I got yelled at by the robin who has a nest in the grape arbour which is near the lilies. Then I got yelled at by an irate sparrow. I suspect that nest might be in the other grape arbour that's just outside the compound gate. I refilled the hummingbird feeders (the hummer was wondering what all the fuss was about; she just wanted the buffet topped up) as the...

Jamelle Bouie just dropped a video for USians about the ongoing tariffs and 51st state bullshit, encouraging them to see what they might consider a joke for what it really is. And that Canadians are not amused. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPs9MNl5QTg

RE: https://mstdn.ca/@HalifaxExaminer/116958093162377364 This is good. There's also a story about how drivers can remind themselves to do a shoulder check before opening a door to prevent cyclist accidents, like the one that killed someone on the weekend.

Drove by a Sobeys this afternoon. The sign out front that advertises weekly specials was trumpeting TAYLOR FARMS SALADS. I dunno, if I was the store manager I might have gone with something else on that big ol' sign, for now at least.
