@me_@sueden.social yup, 1040STF it is, and I guess that weird thing that has pins sandwiched between MMU and its socket is part of the trick. Exploration on this thing will sadly have to wait. Tomorrow I'll finish cleaning it and I will transfer it to storage.

    @hkz@social.chinwag.org This sandwiched PCB (or whatever it is) might be a hack (a demux for MAD9) to enable 3 MB instead of the 2.5 MB you would get when disabling one original 512 kB memory bank (sorry, the article seems to be available in German only): https://stcarchiv.de/atari-inside/1995/06/ram-erweiterung This was a commercial product by USElectronic (Ulrich Skulimma) and was available for 18 German marks – soaround 9€ not accounting for inflation. I would expect other Atari aftermarket hardware manufacturers offered similar solutions.
