Okay, I'll name a name. If I had written this article as a strawman, people would be on my case for the title being so on-the-nose. https://lucumr.pocoo.org/2026/7/24/codeberg-divides/

I think, fundamentally, this "dividers accusing of division" irony happens because we hold a lot of our values as shallow, single-word thought-terminating cliches, rather than a contextualized and well-informed idea "why do we like this thing?" Obviously, that happens to the word "freedom" a lot - any of us could name political examples for that one all day. But here it's happening for *inclusion*, so it's worthwhile to ask the probing question everyone is inclined to skip over reflexively: "inclusion to do what?" The answer, of course, is that LLM boosters would prefer the *exploitative inclusion* of people with anti-LLM values. They want us here, sure, but as the captive Omelas Child of open source. After all, the machine has already fed on our past labor - why not the present and future too? Why shouldn't they be entitled to it all? To perpetual software alimony? Obviously that's not actually healthy or equitable for a community, and kicking such people to the curb is defense of the individual and group.

@MaddieM4@raphus.social Armin's got what we in the ideas business call "unspecified major premisitis". A deep well of unexplored premature conclusions papered over with post-hocs. Armin wants Codeberg to compete with GitHub on GitHub's terms. And concludes GitHub's permissive abuse culture is a net good because letting people do whatever they want is popular. Also LLMs are good, can be good, missing out, its the future. All the unstated major premises are in that short article.

  • Quote: „But these tools are also becoming part of how software is made.“ Quote: „More importantly, LLMs if done and used well, should be welcome to all of us.“ How do they all throw these grandiose statements around that are absolutely unfounded? Guys like this are living in a completely different reality than me. I would not even know how to have a serious conversation with them. @MaddieM4@raphus.social

@MaddieM4@raphus.social wow, that title. Codeberg didn't "divide", it just told your (the author's) slop-loving self to please find another place to hang.
