So it looks like the thing I hated about the last two Dune movies, is going to be explored more in the third. I think the changes that they made to Channi were lazy. The book version was a die hard believer. Someone who believed in Muadib 100%. She was a place of solace and strength for him. When he didn’t want to believe in himself, she believed in him. And instead of exploring, how a person becomes that devote, with that much love for a man she knows must do terrible things, they take the easy path and make her a rebel to her own people. And by doing that they take away some of Paul’s humanity. They take away the innocence that he was only willing to display in her presence. They took away a big part of the context of why he needed to follow the golden path. I’ve enjoyed movies in the past that weren’t exactly the way the books went. Mostly because they kept to the spirit of the book. This change just didn’t sit with me. They didn’t keep to the spirit of who she was. So yeah, I’m not looking forward to the third movie.
