@kimlockhartga@beige.party I was always really fast, and then I noticed I was having a hard time getting through Out of Africa, even though I was liking it. It wasn't difficult. I was getting really frustrated, until I realized it was sending me off on trains of thought, and daydreams about the landscape, looking things up (pre internet), and that seemed like part of the experience of the book. Some books are fast for me others not. I had to learn to read slowly 🐌.
This one is *really* slow for me, but I'm guessing it will pick up when I've returned to the present and get involved with the plot. It goes fast when I want to know what happens next, and I'm already getting curious.

@sunumbral@beige.party @kimlockhartga@beige.party Isak Dinesen/Karen Blixen will make you work. I haven’t read OoA, but her Seven Gothic Tales is so euridite, I was constantly looking things up in the Bible, The Inferno … One of my favorite books, but a trap in a trap in a trap.
