I bought a Fjallraven backpack because they were so highly recommended, and I’m sorry, I don’t understand the point and I have massive regrets. Someone needs to sell me the bag I purchased, because it’s not padded well and has no luggage strap or extra security pockets. Why do people buy these?

  • @hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange Fashion, unfortunately. My daughter and her friends were all over this in middle school.

@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange depends on where you are. For me, it's nostalgia. It's the bag me and many others had as a school bag in the early 80's. I was actually surprised when I saw them in Singapore some 35 years later. It's a great rugged bag, but it's not a backpacking bag really. Fjällräven has other types of bag that may be more to your liking.

@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange day what you want about Linus Tech Tips but their backpack and screwdrivers are absolutely great. My backpack has been on over 100 flights and looks almost brand new.

@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange Yeah I don't get them except as "fashion”. I tend to go for either Crumpler as a daily-carry, or Osprey for a day-pack or hiking.

  • @hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange I haven’t bought a backpack for about 20 years but the one I’m currently using was conference swag from ASPLOS 2017. It’s made by Samsonite, has good padding under the laptop compartment, has a tablet pocket next to that and a load of interior pockets and a ‘secret’ pocket on the front (I don’t really understand the threat model for secret pockets). The straps are comfy.

@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange I just spent half a day researching my next backpack. In the end I spent more than I intended to, but I hope it to be the last one of my career 😏.
