I generally do not invite people in for interviews that have for profit universities on their resume. Is this unfair? I think it shows a lack of sound judgement with a predilection to seek shortcuts in life instead of putting in the work. Especially when you can usually attend a public university for cheaper and they aren’t going to give you a diploma just for paying on time and showing up. #getfedihired #education #resume

@brett@bitflipp.social Maybe you want to reword that slightly - what do you mean by "for profit universities"? Trump University? Certainly A non-state, non-public school like...MIT, Yale, Stanford? Or even lesser ranked schools? If that's what you mean, then I disagree with you. Especially as a lot of state schools are just as bad about grade inflation & easy pass rates

@brett@bitflipp.social Weird. My normal state university gave me a diploma for paying on time and showing up. College is a joke my dude, and you shouldn't be putting degree requirements on your jobs in the first place.

@brett@bitflipp.social This is pretty terrible tbh. Got receipts for the claim that "you can usually attend public universities for cheaper"? If this was even remotely an apples-to-apples comparison for everyone, then for-profit institutions wouldn't exist. Choosing a school isn't just about cost, and paying for school doesn't buy you a diploma for zero work. Your viewpoint is extreme.

@brett@bitflipp.social Sounds like punishing the victims of predatory institutions. A lot of HS graduates, especially first-generation students, have no idea there's a difference between for-profit and public institutions, and have nobody around them to inform them.
