I’m not renting from someone who doesn’t know what a 220 outlet is.

Literally built hardware for local LLMs just to do my own self hosted voice commands for all the IoT shit in my house because none of these companies can design a decent app to save their god damned life and I’m not letting Apple or Amazon know when the fuck I watch TV or what my thermostat is set to. #selfhosting #homelab

I get why, I’m not really complaining, and I’m just happy for the access to the data. But man backfilling my local music library with lyrics from Genius and fitting in around their API limits is painful. I’d happily pay $50 or whatever to lift the guardrails for a week on my personal api token to get this finished. Ultimately I wish I wasn’t so anal about getting everything impeccably tagged but here we are. 🤷‍♂️

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org @lauren@mastodon.laurenweinstein.org @mattgriffin@masto.ai There’s a guy at my office that continuously scrolls on his phone the entire time he’s at the urinal. I have been literally near death from anxiety in my life and even then my mind wasn’t churning hard enough that I couldn’t put my phone up while I took a piss.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org @lauren@mastodon.laurenweinstein.org @mattgriffin@masto.ai Hang on I need to take a call on speaker phone in a public restroom.

@lauren@mastodon.laurenweinstein.org @mattgriffin@masto.ai @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org I only listen to music on my phone speakers playing loudly in public spaces.

@maklem@social.leuchtstark.dev It’s just a way to expose an internal site to the public web without opening ports locally. Also useful if your ISP blocks TCP 80,443.

Kyle will always be my GL just like Wally will always be my Flash but this simply looks incredible. Just keep the rainbow spectrum out of this universe please. We only need green and yellow. #lanterns #dc https://youtu.be/7UIBOsuUwc4?is=L5G7YmjOjlz4MvFh

I don’t care what Codeberg does because I firmly believe you should just host your own source code if you’re someone doing dev work anyway. Don’t depend on anyone else to host your work. #codeberg

Since I moved my primary music listening to my Navidrome server I have been getting a kick out of my old collection while I backfill everything from the past 15 years or so from Soulseek. Remember Army of Anyone? Or that excellent Dave Navarro solo album? #navidrome #subsonic

I lose connection with other “millennials” because I’m just too old to have given a shit about HALO or Pokémon. I was playing Magic, Battletech, and Warhammer and was simply hardcore into PC gaming and had no interest console games like HALO in 2001. I was playing Quake, Diablo II, and Starcraft.

The only thing I was hyped about in the Doomsday trailer is seeing the X-Men again because for a lot of us in the 90s Marvel was only X-Men and Spider-man. Otherwise Disney is insane for launching this steaming pile directly against Dune.

Kind of seems like OpenAI just wanted to breach another site hosting open source competitors to their own platform and then blame it on their agents because how could they ever be expected to control the tools they’re building? #openai #llm #ai #huggingface https://apnews.com/article/openai-gpt56-sol-hugging-face-63ab84fed5612af04d8a160d60f6def3

I’ve finally convinced the Youtube algorithm, the only algorithmic social media I still use, to serve me not just dog videos but schnauzer videos and this makes me extremely happy.

I generally do not invite people in for interviews that have for profit universities on their resume. Is this unfair? I think it shows a lack of sound judgement with a predilection to seek shortcuts in life instead of putting in the work. Especially when you can usually attend a public university for cheaper and they aren’t going to give you a diploma just for paying on time and showing up. #getfedihired #education #resume

GroundNews has NEVER revealed their financial backers and has actively refused to name their backers when asked, but their founders came from Bain Capital. They outsource their “bias” detection to 3 different companies. Biases that can be manipulated by simply using less/more inflammatory language. No data has ever been released about how their AI summaries are generated. Don’t give this shady fucking company your money. #groundnews #news #data

I just want to say that while Home Assistant is extremely cool it is enough of a complete disaster on the UI and documentation front to get working that I never would have had the patience to get all of this stood up without Claude Code+Gemma helping me fix all the issues that are in no way obvious. #homeassistant #homelab #localai

So I put Home Assistant on top of local Gemma4 and it’s kind of working. Lots of tweaks still to make but when I get one automation fully baked and voice controlled it feels like fucking Star Trek.

I like how no github pages ever actually finish loading now. Just a dogshit place to host your source code at this point. #github

One of things LLMs are great at is parsing logs. Or writing code for you to parse logs. If you have a broken system you’re unfamiliar with and you have logs upon logs upon logs to look through I’m not sure why this isn’t the first thing you do. #LLM #AI

ok I think I've finally polished off the re-done Matrix install. Don't have everything quite tidy yet as far as cleaning up test users and rooms but I've finally whittled the sign up and auth flow down to the most streamlined I can possibly make it. Authentik, auto SSO, local passwords turned off, only SSO users. Got the sign up and re-auth down to like 5 clicks total. My first go around people could barely figure out how to register with my server and not the default. #matrix #el...

Don't envy England playing the literal home team today in Mexico City even though they're probably the better team overall than Mexico. The atmosphere in that stadium is going to be insane.

I carry a little boxed coffee from Sprouts in my backpack's little sealed lunch partition. Unfortunately, a week ago when I went into the office at some point the box leaked coffee into that entire compartment. Now, not hard to clean up, but I did notice that I didn't have to clean up as much coffee as I thought I'd need to.

GrapheneOS should stop publishing drama on the main account and instead do that from personal accounts.

For those doing work with LLM agents herdr has become a non-negotiable for me during my work day. It's a good way to keep track of your agents in the terminal especially when you have several projects going at once. I hate that I'm at this place with LLMs now but I feel like I'm keeping a decent grasp on responsible usage and minimizing errors. My token usage is like 2% of my limit and I simply do not understand how people can max it out without their work being dogshit. #llm #a...
