Stop calling them the #canadianwildfires These are fires caused by American-led global inaction on #climate change Canada did not ask for them. Canada did not cause them. But Canada is paying for them. We are stretched thin picking up after our lazy neighbors. if only the US would take this moment as a wake up call to pick up their damn trash. But instead of realizing.they need to about face on.climate as the result is literally hitting them in the face, American governors are blaming Canada for a problem we didn't cause and are unable, single-handedly to resolve at its root.

@cyberlyra@hachyderm.io These are fires caused by American-led global inaction on #climate change A quick comment: It's not our inaction on climate change that's driving this. Inaction on it would be a MASSIVE improvement as green technologies are actually just better in general. Please. Put blame where blame is due. America is ACTIVELY ACCELLERATING the problem of climate change. We are paying money to fuck up windfarms, pushing "clean coal" and shoving power hungry AI into everything. All while living a wasteful lifestyle. Oh yeah and we waste a lot of energy on survailence adtech.

@cyberlyra@hachyderm.io If the climate change/global warming is a direct result of emissions and the increase in wildfires are a result of this global warming, Canada is accountable for ~2% of that warming …

@cyberlyra@hachyderm.io The corrupt US Supreme Court and a fossil fuel funded fascist regime is causing climate change wildfires Cause https://theintercept.com/2022/06/30/supreme-court-epa-climate-charles-koch/ https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/20/us/politics/koch-network-2024-election-trump.html https://www.desmog.com/2024/10/25/project-2025-trump-mapped-how-6-billionaire-family-fortunes-fund-climate-denial/ https://www.desmog.com/2024/08/14/project-2025-billionaire-donor-heritage-foundation-donald-trump-jd-vance-charles-koch-peter-coors/ Effect https://www.desmog.com/2025/01/21/mapped-donald-trump-transatlantic-anti-green-network/ https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/trump-cites-national-security-to-stop-offshore-wind-development-heres-what-to-know https://www.cnn.com/2026/03/23/climate/trump-totalenergies-offshore-wind-cancellation https://apnews.com/article/trump-offshore-wind-energy-climate-interior-invenergy-2809c57fa04b59a21927631b91b4b69f https://blog.ucs.org/michael-halpern/the-epa-disbanded-its-office-of-science-advisor-heres-why-that-matters/

@cyberlyra@hachyderm.io We call them "Canadian Wildfires" only because they are located in Canada, not because they are necessarily Canada's fault. That being said, Canada is also not entirely without blame. Canadians rank significantly higher in total energy consumption per capita than Americans. Of course, in overall impact, yes, there are many more Americans, so as I actually said the other day, we Americans bear the majority of the blame.

@cyberlyra@hachyderm.io It’s our fault too: Yesterday Vancouver politicians voted against a motion to slow down data centre developments and to asses the risks of digital infrastructure! It was a reasonable motion centred around the environmental impact and not rushing into building infrastructure that does not benefit Canadians and will in fact make the water scarcity much worse! Yet these ghouls seeing the country burn still voted to increase our carbon footprint #canpoli #canada #climate

  • @cyberlyra@hachyderm.io Canada is to blame just like all of the western world. Being next to the US is no excuse.
