@cycling_on_rails@mastodon.social In this case I’d say passenger rights are already strong enough. You have a right of alternative transport (any bus/train) and hotel + food where necessary. You have to give the operator a chance to organise it for you, but if they fail to do so within 100 minutes you can expense it on your own and claim the money back.
Yes you need to expense it, and yes maybe operators should have to communicate it more clearly, but otherwise you have pretty good protections.

@stefanlindbohm@mastodon.social @cycling_on_rails@mastodon.social I hear the EU Parliament passed a reform of air passenger rights recently that included a requirement for carriers to inform passengers when they can exercise them. All I could think was "that's nice, but rail passengers when"

@stefanlindbohm@mastodon.social @cycling_on_rails@mastodon.social As far as I read the regulation, the 100 minute rule only applies to onwards travel, not to hotels. Which would mean, they don’t have to pay you back if you make your own arrangements.
