  Jointed track and speed indicator clicking ASMR day We’re traveling ~5 hours through the Swedish inland where villages are far apart and 1000 inhabitants is a big place. Inlandsbanan was built to connect these places, so darned it we’re going to use it. It’s a touristic service nowadays rather than a practical commute, but who can really complain about a timetable with 20 minute coffee breaks anyways?

  @jon@gruene.social @HaTetsu@mastodon.com.pl I’d guess that, yes, Norwegian operators are the ones providing realtime data to Entur. Static schedules are probably coming from BaneNOR but not realtime. So Entur is just showing the static data? Meanwhile SJ simply has no realtime system of their own. Their app shows data from Trafikverket straight up. Hence no realtime data gets sent outside of Sweden and no data is shown for outside of Sweden in their app.

  It’s silently a big day for Railfinder today – after 9 months of living with a performance issue in an external system that we’re dependent on for ticketing, it. is. finally. fixed!! If you’ve tested Railfinder in the past and found prices to load too slowly, now is the time to try again. Big, big relief for us, and this allows us to finally start making steps to actually grow what we do and increase our user base. We have been cooking so stay tuned!

  More details on the new order of Swedish night train rolling stock: the order is for 11 sets of 9 night coaches and 9 sets of 7 day coaches. Meaning Trafikverket will own coaches with a total of 1122 sleeper accommodations, compared to 1970 accommodations today. 1452 seats, compared to 1434 today.   Yay, I can get security updates while still avoiding the glass disaster! (These were since December not offered for phones that support iOS 26, but are again now. I was just about to decide not to test my luck any longer but procrastination was a good thing this time!)

  An odd benefit of booking a multi-ticket cross border trip from/to Sweden in one transaction is that we can, according to Swedish rules, remove the VAT even on a domestic ticket as long as it is part of an international journey.

  Being linked to on Mastodon is a minor DDOS every time as everyone’s instances fetch the preview card for the post. Normally not a problem except on our page of results which is heavy to render with all info and sometimes our web servers get tripped over by the load for a few minutes. I really should make some changes to lazy load the heavy stuff in these cases 😬 (But please continue linking – that is intended to work!)

  Apparently the Swedish Competition Authority ruled in 2019, in a case brought by two open access operators, that forcing the incumbent operator to sell competitors in their dominant sales channel would be an ineffective measure. Instead they propose to legislate fair conditions for independent booking portals to emerge. AFAIK, this was not followed up by legislators. This is our beta version and - hopefully - the first step towards that one booking site for trains across Europe that we all dream of.   @Pepijn I think some departures are scheduled with more of a known situation, but maybe like one per day or something? Ah, too bad on the price. It wasn’t much different when I booked, maybe it has changed due to this situation. @tml @jon

  New feature of the Railfinder journey planner live today: avoiding station changes that require a metro or similar We now consider transfers in three levels: within a station, walking between nearby stations, and changes that require local transit. If the fastest journey possible requires a worse change of stations, we calculate other options that have easier transfers. And we promote the easier journeys higher in the list of results. For example going Brussels - Barcelona skipping Paris ⤵️

  Another small-ish quality feature is now live on Railfinder – sorting shorter trips by departure time by default! We’re proud of our ”Best” sorting for longer journeys, but it’s long been clear that it is not ideal for shorter/simpler journeys. So we’ve now added some logic to automatically switch to departure time sorting when appropriate. And to make things easier to navigate, there’s now also a filter to jump directly to a specific departure time.
