USians, what’s the big deal with this Mitch McConnell fella? No disrespect to him, but why is it so important to keep secret if he’s dead/dying?

@WiteWulf@cyberplace.social Not US, but basically if he's declared dead within so many days of the upcoming elections, a special election for his replacement isn't needed. Or as it stood, the Governor of the state could directly appoint a replacement, which they didn't want as the Governor is a Democrat.
