@Savagejen@mastodon.social any attempt I make to google answers to that question will be as good as yours. fwiw I believe the idea of the UN conventions is to protect human rights and ensure there's a backstop to prevent permanent statelessness. I can't speak to what the US does because I'm not American and don't live there. I do know they can't deport or permanently detain a stateless person in normal times, but under the current administration who knows if that's still true. 😬

@Savagejen@mastodon.social @trechnex@mastodonapp.uk they would be in detention (jail) until they could be deported. Deportation would be a problem as there isn’t an obvious place to deport them to. So some govt employee would be looking for a country that would let them in
