@Savagejen@mastodon.social any attempt I make to google answers to that question will be as good as yours. fwiw I believe the idea of the UN conventions is to protect human rights and ensure there's a backstop to prevent permanent statelessness. I can't speak to what the US does because I'm not American and don't live there. I do know they can't deport or permanently detain a stateless person in normal times, but under the current administration who knows if that's still true. 😬
