@gruber@mastodon.social I don’t disagree at all. But I think the new trend towards web apps, particularly for ai services that want dish out ‘build this app for me’ requests to people who don’t know programming at all, because it allows easy sharing of apparent ‘work’ and the web provides its own degree of sandboxing and APIs that these same ‘customers’ would never be able to set up for a platform native app. Yes, it’s a lazy as hell one size fits all approach. AI may need all the customers they can get.

Rather than write one web app and ship it to each platform, we should write one spec and test suite and use coding agents to ship native code to each platform.” Now that this thought was introduced, my annoyance at ever having to use Electron again is probably going to go up a few notches.

@gruber@mastodon.social It's worth noting that Slack went all in on Electron way back when by laying off the engineers working on a native Mac client -- both of whom were early engineers on both Danger and Android.
