Interesting that Germany sees fit to honour our queen's birth, a century ago, when we don't. Whether you object to the principle of our monarchy, the cost of maintaining it, or just feel the family needs to pay more tax, it's hard to argue against her lifelong service to the country, or perhaps I should say to our government, regardless of controlling party

    @gregc@mastodonapp.uk I do object to the idea of monarchy but QE2 did a good job within the bounds of what the system allows/requires. I think it's unfair to expect any individual to take on such a role for their entire life just because of their parentage. There's no guarantee we'll get a good service and no way to remove a useless monarch short of civil war.
