Hi British people Did you get a job abroad (after Brexit) and move? How difficult was it? Is your area particularly in demand, did you feel outcompeted by 'the locals', what do you think got you over the line..? It all feels impossible to me. Why would anyone want to hire an insular (mostly) mono-lingual Brit who needs a visa when they could just... Not? Sigh. Boosts appreciated! #brexshit #advice #EU #EUjobs

@noodlemaz@mstdn.games I moved to Germany just after the Brexit vote but before actual Brexit itself, which made things easier. Now you would need visas etc in order to qualify for obtaining residency. For me due to my background, and the specific role I am in getting the job, while competitive, was somewhat straightforward. My field is however in demand. Language can be a challenge, as can learning the local way of doing things, not least bureaucracy!

@noodlemaz@mstdn.games I moved to France long before Brexit, and was shocked to see many Brits here vote to leave, resulting in them no longer being able to live here! My wife and kids already had French passports, and I got mine 4 years ago. I've worked 100% remotely since 1994, and all my clients are outside France, which strangely enough makes the paperwork slightly easier.

@noodlemaz@mstdn.games New Zealand. Not an easy move, not a cheap one, but so so rewarding. Language not a problem. Economy has been struggling but hopefully just about to take off. No shortage of ex-Brits here on Masto who can offer advice if you want to look into it.

@noodlemaz@mstdn.games Well, a relative succeeded. When he applied the first question was "you're British, what makes you think you'll be allowed to work here?" To which his reply was "how's about this Irish passport?" Sadly, although the Irish are extremely generous with their passports not everybody qualifies.
