Been looking at Bluesky via Tapestry (it’s great, you can’t actually post, which is useful in this scenario). I intentionally don’t follow many people over there, but even with that, the snotty dunk-centric discourse shows through. Like, apparently the Europeans are all arguing with the Americans about whether air conditioning is evil. The flavor over there is a little more along the lines of what everyone here was afraid would happen when Mastodon added QTs. (Which hasn’t really come to pass here.) I don’t have to go into detail about the ways in which some Fedi people are tiresome, because I am posting this on Fedi. Y’all know. My conclusion from this very limited experiment is that both Fedi and Bsky have tedious asshats, and it’s largely down to picking which kind you will tolerate having RT’ed into your timeline by people whom you had hoped would be more discerning.

  • @rossgrady@dood.net The things I like most about the Fedi is that most users are Principled — you have to be to put up with the jankiness, and that, maybe because of that jankiness, maybe for some cultural reason, are disinclined to picking fights. We lost a lot when we lost old Twitter. I'll miss it the most on, you know, the day we're all waiting for comes to pass. But I've become moderately convinced that such sites aren't culturally or commercial sustainable as such under capitalism.
