@rossgrady@dood.net The things I like most about the Fedi is that most users are Principled — you have to be to put up with the jankiness, and that, maybe because of that jankiness, maybe for some cultural reason, are disinclined to picking fights. We lost a lot when we lost old Twitter. I'll miss it the most on, you know, the day we're all waiting for comes to pass. But I've become moderately convinced that such sites aren't culturally or commercial sustainable as such under capitalism.

@donaldball@triangletoot.party I was scrolling back through everyone I follow on here yesterday, trying to remember someone's handle because lord knows searching for things is just impossible, and it was like the graveyard of people who tried out Fedi for a minute when Twitter imploded, and then decamped for Threads or Bsky or whatever. In some cases it was the jank, and in some cases it was just never acheiving the critical mass of everyone in the same place at the same time that we had on Twitter, and in some cases [they claim] it was because someone on Fedi told them to use CWs. I'm keeping one eye on Bsky because some American news breaks faster & is discussed differently over there than here. And in some cases that's useful. But in other cases, it's tedious AF. So yeah, I like it here. People tend to be more thoughtful. Maybe because the character limit is longer? :)
