@delta@chaos.social It used to be the ability to talk with anyone with an email address, meaning people didn't have to have the app to be part of the ecosystem. Sadly, that's gone now :(

@delta@chaos.social webxdc apps r awesome. other platforms like xmpp support it but more fragmented ecosystem means u gotta ask ppl if theyre on a supported client first which meant i never really used webxdcs on xmpp. also identity not being tied to ur address is nice, again comparing to xmpp since that's what i used before, changing server is quite a hassle there with readding people, rejoining chats etc.

@delta@chaos.social When I suggest messaging platforms to others, I think of a few basic requirements related to privacy, and the thing is, I can hardly think of anything besides Delta Chat that even comes close. Almost everything requires you to have a phone number or create a login ID at least. Delta Chat works well on mobile on both Android and iOS. Like, I suppose SimpleX is in the running, but I prefer Delta Chat, personally. Delta Chat's use of IMAP and SMTP and all the server choice is pretty cool in terms of being censorship-resistant.

@delta@chaos.social the #deltachat project is unique in the realm of secure cross-platform messaging. Thank you for everything. We use Delta Chat on our in-house servers with the same user account for all applications, and since version 2.51, the loss of access to the DeltaChat folder has caused unwanted messages to appear. Creating additional user accounts or using external relays is not compatible with our in-house servers.

@delta@chaos.social i love the piggy-backing on smtp as just a dumb transport i wish i could keep supporting deltachat, but i'm waiting until there is a full ban on generative models: support.delta.chat/t/any-official-position-on-the-use-of-ai/5039 i know many others feel this way and i'm urging the project to implement a full ban :/

@delta@chaos.social Because Delta Chat uses the email infrastructure side of the internet instead of the telephony side, it can be deployed on systems where a telephone line is not available or undesirable, such as TAILS OS using The TOR Network. These deployments can still be fully integrated and synchronised with a telephony based installation of the app, totally across platform and/or device, if desired, or remain untraceable and anonymous. To my knowledge this not possible any other secure messaging service with a decent and functional UI/UX. Top service with unmatched flexibility and privacy. Bravo to the dev. team, and the relay providers.

@delta@chaos.social I like Delta chat a lot. For institutions it is nice to be able to keep private conversations and chat inside the domain of the institution itself: ex. I can chat with students without the need to exit the domain, accepting thirds party privacy policy in a non monitored place. While everyone likes privacy I like to keep my communications within institutional boundaries, protecting both myself and the students.
