@rexi@mastodon.social @oxy@social.bsdlab.au there's so much fusion buzz rn i'm wondering if it might even pip quantum comp to the post as the next bubble iirc there was ML being used to regulate something in that super small one (sorry i can't rem deets it was a late night YT binge)

    @sean_ae@post.lurk.org @rexi@mastodon.social ML and LLMs are two different things. Machine Learning can be and is useful for large scale statistical analysis. LLMs are large scale statistical analysis of language corpus with a random number generator bolted on to mix up the results a bit. We already use GPUs for nuclear modelling etc - nothing to do with what is being sold as "AI" currently, and I'm not sure what help LLMs would bring See things like: https://www.anl.gov/aurora or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Capitan_(supercomputer)
