@sean_ae@post.lurk.org @rexi@mastodon.social ML and LLMs are two different things. Machine Learning can be and is useful for large scale statistical analysis. LLMs are large scale statistical analysis of language corpus with a random number generator bolted on to mix up the results a bit. We already use GPUs for nuclear modelling etc - nothing to do with what is being sold as "AI" currently, and I'm not sure what help LLMs would bring See things like: https://www.anl.gov/aurora or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Capitan_(supercomputer)

    @oxy@social.bsdlab.au @rexi@mastodon.social oh sure i know that, been using ML for 10+ years, but barely touched transformer models if you're talking about LLMs specifically idk how useful they would be in developing fusion - just mentioning the ML use cos 'AI' but i understand what you mean obviously
