Which distro should I live-check?
Fedora KDE, CachyOS, Debian. One of those, depending on your needs.
You can rice KDE Plasma easily. Check why ksyslogger uses so many resources, it’s not normal. You can get a full Plasma desktop with under 400MB of RAM usage and under 0.5% CPU.
I use Thunderbird as mail client, as Kmail doesn’t really cut it for me.

under 0.5% CPU Surely this depends on the CPU? On a Thinkpad T430s with a Intel Core i5-3320M, i.e. 2 cores with 2 threads each at 3.3GHz max., ksyslogger ran at 3-5% CPU. This was in a live environment which I shut down after tweaking it for about 30mins, so IDK, maybe it would’ve settled down evtl.?
