@MadSci@focal.social @feditips@mstdn.social vérification exists to prevent impersonation, and some verified accounts needed that for their reputational safety, I'm concerned about a central list being kept with little oversight into the person keeping that list. That seems like a ready made list for harassment to me.

@MadSci@focal.social @feditips@mstdn.social the only additional thing I'd like for verification would be a way of doing a DNS text record for your domain. But that's cos I haven't redone my website yet. Yes there are places I could do it. But I have control over my domain. But for now html will do.

@onepict@chaos.social @MadSci@focal.social @feditips@mstdn.social Esther does raise a valid concern here, though I'm pretty used to harassment, unfortunately. I also don't want to put something on my profile that will cause people to block or mute me automatically, as some in this thread have suggested using the list.

@onepict@chaos.social @MadSci@focal.social @feditips@mstdn.social I'm part of it & you absolutely have to manually opt in; he (and the other volunteers working on the project) are *only* adding people who request to be added. They're not scraping between sites, just verifying. Some verified folks from the migration (e.g., journos, academics) may not have a way to verify the Mastodon way using a link to a private professional site. People are adjusting. For example, already some media sites are letting journalists verify w Mastodon.
