I also don't want to put something on my profile that will cause people to block or mute me automatically, as some in this thread have suggested using the list.

Various social networks historically have initially shaped but then been shaped by the communities who use them. They hack around the norms of the developers who designed the network. We're seeing a large influx in, so the community is in flux again. We have some norms and reasons for them, but even before this people interacted in their own way. Ultimately its up to each of us, how we use this network
