@atomicpoet@mastodon.social There is really no viable reason Google does not have their own instance. It's simply them discouraging use of decentralized social networks because they cannot profit from them easily. They shut off G+ which could have been great. Now their model is ad revenues from search engines, data revenues from user data, and app revenues from the play store. They would have to compete with the FOSS apps.

    @shelenn @atomicpoet@mastodon.social There was an ex-Googler on T-bird that explained how maintenance work doesn't count towards promotions or bonuses, only product launches, which is why after a product goes live, all of the good engineers leave that product team. The only people left are the people that can't get transferred. It's why the support for google products suck, and why they regularly shut down the services two years after they go live.
