There was an ex-Googler on T-bird that explained how maintenance work doesn't count towards promotions or bonuses, only product launches, which is why after a product goes live, all of the good engineers leave that product team.
The only people left are the people that can't get transferred.
It's why the support for google products suck, and why they regularly shut down the services two years after they go live.

@shelenn @atomicpoet@mastodon.social This is one of the reasons i was never able to recommend google services to any of my customers. Google have also been having problems in Denmark and Germany, as the latest court judgements mean that they are now no longer able to set up contracts with academic institutions, education departments, or local governments. :D Munich might move back to Linux... :D
