@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot ty for the crystal ball! It does seem as though England is quickly going down a Trumpian road. Scottish independence makes a lot of sense to me. I know very little of the efforts in Wales, if there are any, and obviously Northern Ireland has a long complicated history. Whatever happens I hope the process is peaceful and democratic. Scotland-specific question: if Independence were to happen in your lifetime do you think it would be a full break from the Royal lineage as well into a Republic? Is the general feeling that their presence would just continue the colonialism?

@chris@mstdn.chrisalemany.ca I believe we should become a Scottish Republic yes but many don't want to complicate the indepedence question by linking it with getting rid of the royals. For me it links in with land reform, and the people owning much of the land, palaces and castles currently owned by the nobility.

  • @chris@mstdn.chrisalemany.ca @IndyRichard@mastodon.scot I'll interject here to note that there are a lot of those wanting independence who are not bothered whether or not we retain the monarchy, and there are a fair number who want both independence and to ditch the royals, but the sentiment for independence but only if we keep the monarchy is insignificant (if it exists at all). Whether or not the royals are retained at all will certainly depend on how independence is achieved.
