@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot @chris@mstdn.chrisalemany.ca Looking at the Scottish independence question as an observer from (just) outside, land ownership looks like a massive glaring problem you will have to deal with: I can imagine wealthy landowners having obscene leverage in Scotland in the same way as the City of London markets have over the UK now.

@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot i would love for Canada to grow up and shake off the Monarchy, but I doubt it will happen in my lifetime as there is still a lot of admiration for the pomp and history and more critically, it is complicated by the royal proclamation of 1763 which is key to the relationship between First Nation peoples in Canada and the Crown. It is also very very hard to do a constitutional amendment. However, with QEII gone, if there was enough palace scandal, I could see the tide change.
