@MyWoolyMastadon@toot.community @Brad_Rosenheim@climatejustice.social @Harlander@writing.exchange Was informed that in some EU countries calls to 911 are forwarded to 112 because of Americans 🙄

    @rhelune@todon.eu Someone really needs to teach them that the new number is 0118 999 881 999 119 725...3 @MyWoolyMastadon@toot.community @Brad_Rosenheim@climatejustice.social

    @rhelune@todon.eu @MyWoolyMastadon@toot.community @Brad_Rosenheim@climatejustice.social @Harlander@writing.exchange Wouldn't even see that particular thing as a negative. When people are in shock or perhaps even injured they may not be able to remember these things they may have read in a travel guide once, no matter their education. I'd hope that, if I was in a heavy car accident or sth. in some foreign country, that the system is set up in all the ways it can be to be bulletproof and just work with any common emergency number, on any phone, anywhere.

    @rhelune@todon.eu @MyWoolyMastadon@toot.community @Brad_Rosenheim@climatejustice.social @Harlander@writing.exchange Many American exchanges forward 112 to 911 because of Europeans. 🤷‍♂️ (Learned this when an SIM-less iPhone we used for testing in a European locale accidentally activated the emergency mode autodial. Thought it was fine since it dialed 112… ended up with a safety check from the local small town police department!)

    @rhelune@todon.eu @MyWoolyMastadon@toot.community @Brad_Rosenheim@climatejustice.social @Harlander@writing.exchange it's a bit more complicated (and less) as far as I know. Certain numbers are designated as emergency numbers and will automatically forward to the relevant local emergency line (Even if the phone otherwise is not in a network, as long as it has reception). These numbers are 112 (Europe), 911 (US), and (I think) 999 (UK).
