#LibreOffice Writer disappoints by not letting me get my inner #Pratchett out and allowing me footnotes on footnotes. What an oversight.

Recently I needed to quickly edit a picture to remove a few bits. So I fired up Paint on my windows machine to do that. Reader, did you know that Paint now has AI features? And like my experience with AI everywhere it's shit at its job. The only thing I wanted to do was erase some stuff, but the erase function is now "generative erase", meaning it spent about 5-10 seconds thinking on how to erase things AND THEN DIDN'T ERASE ALL OF IT. #ai #fuckai #microslop

Kid clamored for curry, bought him one at a Asian food stand in Bayreuth. Now he criticized the cooking. Says he wants to go back to London to eat curry there. I have created a monster.

it's so weird how dry my area of Germany has become. I think it's much more visible for me as someone who only comes here a few weeks a year.

Sigh. Thunderstorms and rains have become rare enough that my kids think I am joking when I tell them not to run around in one.

Quick survey for you #ttrpg folks: what's your favorite free resources, apps, tools, or whatever for roleplaying games (and other related hobbies)?

Boot Hill: had a training game with the first scenario from the book today on Roll20. (The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral). The game is as deadly as it is said, and even if you are a stat monster a protracted fight can get you killed, as Wyatt Earp found out in this game (headshot). In the end the last lawman (Virgil Earp) managed to reach safety on the last point of strength he had, while the remaining three of the Cochise County Cowboys were chasing after him. #ttrpg #boothill

So he used public money to hire a buddy to give the reflecting pool a garish do-over by painting it blue, which lead to it getting a really bad algae bloom. Instead of fixing the actual problem they put peroxide into it, in quantities that never could hope to actually affect the algae. Now the fresh paint is peeling off and the pool is a sludge of algae and paint chips and the foundations of the pool are starting to break. A perfect miniature of US politics. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/pa...

London postal museum today. The kids are completely fascinated by such arcane, ancient technologies as phone cells, rotary phones, and pneumatic mail. Two of which I grew up with, and the last is still in use in an hospital two streets from our apartment.

tried Popeyes for the first time today since they recently expanded into Poland. 1 quibble: why there no spinach on menu? Feels like false advertising. Jokes aside, it tastes better than KFC, which I admit is a low bar to clear. #fastfood

I randomly remembered BUTTER!!! yesterday while driving. No, not the dairy product, but a stupibad #manga from the 2010s. At least I read it back then during these long sessions of rocking my kid to sleep. It starts with: why the hell is it even called BUTTER!!! (With exclamation marks)? Is this ever explained? I gave up on the manga because nothing ever happened and the character started to blend into one another. But looking at it I think everybody gave up on it around the same time.

What hurts a bit more than not even getting an interview for a position I was doing for 5 years is how quick the rejection went out.

I just applied to the same position I had at the very start of my career. (IT Service Desk, even at the same company) I feel it's gonna really hurt if and when I don't get that one.

Quick poll because this came up on piefed: How many of you have #synesthesia? (Synesthesia: stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to involuntary experiences in other sensory or cognitive pathways This often manifests as letters and numbers having specific colors in one's brain, but there are other types as well)

*sigh* *reads article again* *siiiiiigh* So... 1. Nobody should be using Edge. THIS is why nobody should be using Edge. We didn't know it was exactly this, but everyone instinctively knew Edge was funky. 2. Was this the behavior before they went all-in on AI slop, or is this genuine human incompetence? Who can even still tell by now? https://cybernews.com/security/microsoft-edge-loads-cleartext-passwords-to-memory/ #itsec #microslop

I've been living in Poland for over ten years, but I have to admit there's a limited amount of Polish food I like. And most of the stuff I do like is largely the same stuff as German food. I didn't notice that... well, aversion is a strong word, but might be appropriate... with other cuisines that much. E.g. I find the flavor profile of Korean food strange as well, but I sometimes search it out nevertheless. #food #poland

I have a job interview today, and I don't know what to actually think of this company. They already moved the offer from remote to onsite in an office in Warsaw (meaning 4h+ of commute daily), but every single office of theirs I find on Maps is some sort of suburban residence, except the head office which seems to be over a clothes store in central London. And then my interviewers are from a different company that trades in AI and blockchain technology. This is all so damn sus. #jobs

have you ever noticed that in the end of Back to the Future 3 a car is run over by a train, in broad daylight, in view of a railway crossing, one passenger barely escaping, and it seems no-one investigates the accident? Marty leaves and comes back later and there's no police, no firetrucks, no railway company workers. The train just ran over a car and everybody treats it as business as usual. #movies

Huh... what? 500.000 developers? And you have an annual revenue of 120 million dollars? So every developer makes you 240 bucks per year on average? That doesn't sound like a sustainable business model. #linkedin #ai #jobs
