Cycling camera recomendations please? I see the drivers in Halifax need dashcams, so we likely need to have an equivalent when cycling. I have an old go pro, but it wants to use proprietary software, and I&#39;m interested in a 360 camera, or is getting a front and a back camera better? Ideally I&#39;d like to mount it somewhere on my cycle, but also be able to move it between cycles, because I switch between 2 all year. It should also work in cold weather (about -15C). #BikeTooter

@Kellyshenanigans@yeg.bike If you've got an old GoPro use that. For filming traffic you don't need anything fancy. If you attach it to the bike, it'll take a battering anyway with water, dirt, grit, mud and pot holes. The best place for a camera is usually on your helmet, that way it sees whatever you see, is high enough to see drivers faces, its 360 ability is you turning your head, and it also gives the camera better protection.

@Kellyshenanigans@yeg.bike I got an Insta 360 x3 for cheap (latest model was the x5 when I purchased) and I have been very happy with it. I would say that there will be some occlusion due to your body with any 360⁰ camera, but overall it's a pretty hardy camera for what it needs to do. I like that it's waterproof and has pretty good video stabilization for bumpy roads, mostly. I hear the x4 and later did much better on the stabilization front, which does give me some regrets in getting the x3, but I mostly don't think about it.

@Kellyshenanigans@yeg.bike I use a cheap 1080p aliexpress "bullet" camera on the front and a Chillitech rear camera light on the rear. If Chillitech ship to where you are, then they're good value. I've also used Cycliq which are great, but pricey, and after a few years of continuous use eventually failed (Fly6 battery went, then another Fly6 stopped accepting charge and fly12 lasted 5 years but sd card slot stopped working, so not it's effectively just a light) Key function imho is loop recording.

@Kellyshenanigans@yeg.bike @SRLevine@neuromatch.social I definitely accept your premise—I ride with three cameras: a GoPro on my handlebars, a rear-facing cycliq fly6 jury-rigged to my rack, and a Drift Ghost X on my helmet. All have their own drawbacks. What I would love is a camera as reliable as the Drift but the visual performance of the GoPro. I like the form-factor and battery life of the Drift but the image stabilization of the GoPro. I also found them universally useless at recording a license plate at night.

@Kellyshenanigans@yeg.bike not to recommend using it, but didn't the old GoPros just mount as a usb mass storage device and you could copy the video off it & use whatever? Or does that lose the gps data?
