I'm rereading Teardown: Rebuilding Democracy From the Ground Up by David Meslin (published in 2019) and I'm sharing an activist activity I want to think about trying so I will remember, and maybe others would like to too. Put price tags on things. People don't understand where their tax dollars are going, making them resent paying taxes. We have the city budget, we can look up what things cost, and label items around the city with their cost.

I just saw a video of a fatphobic woman (with a response from a woman I respect) and now, thanks to the woman I respect, I have a response to every fatphobic woman from now on: I can deadlift you (I deadlift 185lb so far). When I started deadlifting, I wanted that to be a response I could give to bothersome people, and now I have a group of bothersome people I can definitely deadlift! No, I will never be 160lb (that would not be healthy for me), but I can deadlift you (probably for a set of 20).

Eddie's Gotcha Day was yesteday, and we spoiled him well. We covered over an ottoman he's scratched apart, adding multiple scratching surfaces at different angles and different textures. Sisal rope on steps for scratching laying on his back upside down or horizontally on top, sisal fabric for verical scratching laying on his side, and linen to pick at and shred like he likes to shred curtains. I also took the kids to the pet store and they got to pick cat toys too. #Caturday

TIL one of the things the #NovaScotia government cut for literal billionaire yacht money was Provincial Heritage Fair. Heritage fair is like a science fair but instead it's about Canadian culture and heritage. This was my kid's first year. They did ravens. They were 1 vote from making it to provincials (4th place). Now I don't know if they'll ever get a chance again. #NSPoli

I finally got over my previous medical trauma to try for the 4th time in my life to see a dr for AUB. I realized I answered a question wrong at the dr. He asked if I change my pad more often than 2h. I said no. Part I didn't say: I use a combo of a pad and period underwear to get an equivalent of 6+ pads, so I can get through 8h without changing. I answered the question, not the intention, in typical Autistic fashion ๐. I will correct this next time I see dr.

With coming food shortages due to an illegal war, eating invasive plants sounds like a great plan! In Halifax, we've got Japanese knotweed, which apparently is tasty in the spring stir fried, pickled, and as a granita. Alexis Nikole Nelson wrote a book (Happy Snacking Don't Die) with foraging instructions and recipes sorted by season that I'm excited to buy. I might try stir frying some knotweed this spring. (Video has vegan food) #VeganFood #VegetarianFood #forraging #In...

I had another interesting gym bro interaction today, this time with my trainer. For context: I'm a middle aged fat woman in an N95 mask, he was a young man, my trainer is a young woman. I was deadlifting, and he was attempting to deadlift beside me. But he was lifting with his back and slamming the weights on the ground after every rep. I was lifting similar weight to him, but controlled, with proper form, putting the weights down gently. 1/?

Cycling camera recomendations please? I see the drivers in Halifax need dashcams, so we likely need to have an equivalent when cycling. I have an old go pro, but it wants to use proprietary software, and I'm interested in a 360 camera, or is getting a front and a back camera better? Ideally I'd like to mount it somewhere on my cycle, but also be able to move it between cycles, because I switch between 2 all year. It should also work in cold weather (about -15C). #BikeTooter

Halifax transit bus driver fails to yield, then honks at, family crossing at crosswalk with lights activated, resulting in the bus driver nearly taking out a whole family. The dad had to call 311 multiple times to get the city to take the near miss seriously. No word from city on any consequences for the driver. #Halifax https://globalnews.ca/news/11643814/halifax-transit-safety-crosswalk-close-call/
